A Historic Venue with a Rich Legacy

Originally constructed to host the prestigious Thomas Cup in 1952, this historic venue has witnessed countless memorable moments in badminton history and beyond. Today, rejuvenated and rebranded, it continues to serve as a hub for badminton enthusiasts and a beacon for the local sporting community.

The Singapore Badminton Arena, formerly known as the Singapore Badminton Hall, carries with it a storied past. Built in anticipation of the 1952 Thomas Cup, it was envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility, boasting four parquet-floored courts and a seating capacity of over 7,000. While the inaugural tournament didn't grace its halls, subsequent editions in 1955 and 1958 found a home within its iconic walls. Over the years, it morphed into more than just a badminton venue, hosting diverse events ranging from sporting matches to political milestones. Its significance was duly recognized when it was accorded the status of a historic site by the National Heritage Board in 1999.

Challenges in Refurbishment

Navigating the intricacies of refurbishing a historic venue presented numerous challenges, particularly in terms of lighting design and implementation. However, NVC Lighting rose to the occasion, leveraging their expertise to overcome obstacles and deliver tailored solutions that complemented the unique characteristics of The Singapore Badminton Arena.

Innovative Lighting Solutions by NVC Lighting

One of the primary challenges involved accommodating the venue's high ceiling height while ensuring optimal lighting conditions for both players and spectators. Through meticulous planning and collaboration with in-house product design teams, NVC Lighting proposed a range of high bay light models specifically tailored to meet the venue's requirements. Rigorous calculations of lighting lumens and lux levels, coupled with multiple meticulous simulations and analysis, enabled precise placement of lighting fixtures to achieve optimal illumination without compromising on energy efficiency or visual comfort.
